Trichotillomania

Trichotillomania

Have you heard of trichotillomania? It is the compulsion to pull out your eyelashes, eyebrows or hair. I had a 14-year-old client come in, who had been engaging in this habit for about a year. Her smart parents decided to try hypnosis instead of putting her on medication. She stopped completely after just five sessions!

Hypnotherapy helped give her the insight that she was dealing with the stress of her parent's divorce (one year ago, hmmm) and she felt she was being "picked on". We discussed nervous energy being just that, energy, and she decided she'd rather pick on a guitar than pick on herself. She discovered she could take the turmoil in her heart and put it into words and music, allowing her an amazing way to share and express her feelings.

This is why I love what I do - guiding folks to discover their own solutions, for truly all healing is self-healing, and all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

Work is Love Made Visible

This was a productive week. I thought about the Kahlil Gilbran quote, "Work is love made visible." This is so true for me when I work with my clients - I am aware of the love, the care, the tending to another person's needs. I wanted to extend this to other areas of my life, so my housework became my house love, and my homework became my home love; working in the garden became loving in the garden, working on my website became loving my website; even sending out emails became sending out love letters.

Midweek I thought, "I should mow the lawn" then laughed because I knew it was the last thing I was going to do. The question became, "What would I love to do right now?" To my surprise it was getting out the chainsaw and chopping up the firewood, a task that has been on my list for over a year. What a delight cross that one off, sore arms and all. Interestingly, the next day I found myself in the right mood to mow. I notice the things that I have to do can still be done with love, which I guess is the essence of mindfulness.

Changing Habits

I'm always curious about how to continue good habits I've started and what other healthy habits I can create for myself in a joyful way, rather than as a chore or burden.

Interestingly, I moved my supplements from by the coffee machine to the bathroom as a direct influence from my sweetie. When I get up in the morning I'm used to hearing the hum of their toothbrush followed by the rattle of medications and I realized I'd probably be more consistent in taking my herbs and vitamins if I combined it with my daily cleaning routine, which has worked well over the last week.

Two habits I want to get into (or back into) are 1) doing daily stretches/yoga and 2) meditating. I printed out a copy of the sun salutation and have been doing this simple series for the past couple of days, either on the deck actually in the sun or in the bedroom, now that it feels like there is more space after switching furniture around. I can see getting a bigger, cushier rug up there for yoga during the rain season.

Also getting into the habit of stretching while watching TV with my daughter. It is so hard to be so passive, and though often I multi task on the computer. My back has certainly been talking to me for awhile about better posture and less sitting on my ass. I find myself stretching between clients, and even sometimes during sessions if they are lying down with their eyes shut, I can be gently moving my body in a kind of dance while leading the trance.

Part of this all came to me a few months ago when I first went to Wilder Ranch and I was reading a detox book talking about exercise and how simply action = life. I was singing my little warm up song in my head and flexing various muscles groups, and realized I could do this while driving. So for the last couple of months I sing my little song which driving, tensing and flexing muscles, thinking if it as "microsizing" ie micro exercising. Considering it's twenty minutes each way, I figure I'm getting forty minutes of exercise instead of passive driving. Sometimes I do it before going to bed or when I wake up in the middle of the night.  I feel good about being active daily by walking, hiking, yoga, mowing, sex, and now I want to balance it with passive exercise: stretching, Reiki, massage.

The other daily habit I want to cultivate is meditating. It used to be so routine and now it feels lacking in my discipline. That sounds too harsh. For me, meditating is a way to focus in, discover and express my essential being. It is a creative act and a recreative act, and has taken many forms throughout my lifetime, including yoga, coloring tarot cards, journaling, blogging, and yes, even farmville was a meditation in it's own right. Playing Suduko or doing a crossword puzzle has a similar effect on my mind - it is relaxing, and something has shifted from chaos to order.

So it's not like I don't have this habit, I just want it to shift form. Rather than sitting with my morning coffee and playing solitaire, I want to sit with my coffee and create tarot cards. I put the little table and chair in my altar area, along with colored pencils and my tarot binder, creating an inviting space for me to start my day. Doing the mandala art was inspiring and put me back in touch with the joy of making art. I'm sure you know what I mean, that zen zone when working on your photographs, different from tankville as a creative and productive act, hopefully relaxing for your engineer mind otherwise occupied with codes and bugs.

I like the habits my partner and I have created in our relationship. I like sharing our dreams in the morning, I like how we make coffee and make the bed, I love our habit of making out. Good and healthy, kissing is probably our best discipline. What good habits are you being mindful in creating now?

Hypnotherapy on a Skeptic?

I received an email from a potential new client asking whether it was possible to do hypnotherapy on a skeptic, as well as a few other frequently asked questions. Here was my reply:

Thank you for the email. Hypnotherapy is nothing like you see on TV or at the county fair - I don't have a magic hypno wand that instantly reprograms your brain or changes your behavior. Instead, it much more like a guided mediation with a specific focus where YOU experience insights, release past trauma, and come up with solutions. It always works because it is always your solution, so in some ways it's learning to doubt your doubts (the inner skeptic or inner critic) and come back to a trust or faith in yourself. As a mindfulness coach, my role is to be your personal trainer of the mind, giving you the time, space, techniques and expertise to grow stronger mentally, experience emotional ergonomics, and develop your will power.

That being said, hypnotherapy has a limited range of practice - insomnia, pain management, mild depression (not chronic), social anxiety, changing habits (smoking, trichotillomania). The bottom line is stress management, and my role as a hypnotherapist is to teach you self hypnosis techniques so that you can access a state of calm and make more informed choices rather than perpetuating old coping mechanisms. Here is a great article on what to expect from a session.

Most insurance companies do not pay for hypnotherapy. However, most licensed MFTs are trained in hypnotherapy, plus treat a wider range of mental health issues. As I do not accept insurance, nor do I do couple's counseling, here's a list of who I recommend.

I always encourage my clients to record their sessions for home practice. This takes off a lot of the pressure for "it to work", just like you would not expect six pack abs after one visit to the gym. You may want to check out my little self hypnosis video. to simply experience some relaxation. When you're ready to go deeper, just click the link below to schedule an initial consultation.

Please let me know if I can answer any more questions.

Be well,

Kayla

20 Ways to be Clutter Free

Got clutter? What do you consider clutter? Emotional clutter, mental clutter, or just stuff around the house?

One definition of clutter is something that brings your energy down.

The Merriam Webster definition is: to fill or cover with scattered or disordered things that impede movement or reduce effectiveness, a confusing or disorderly state. Middle English; clotteren to clot, from clot. First Known Use: 1556.

Some key questions to ask yourself - when I think about/feel/hold this item/person/commitment, do I feel light or heavy? Joy or sadness? Energized or tired?

Physical Clutter can be items such as belongings, papers, clothes, and mementos/souvenirs.

“Sentimental items represent love and memories, but those aren’t actually in the items. The items are merely reminders of the love and memories — and expensive ones too, as they take up a lot of space and energy and time. Instead, take a digital photo, put it in a digital slideshow that you play every month or three, and get rid of the item. This is something that it can take a long time to learn, but once you’ve learned it, you let go of your attachment to emotional items.” - Leo Babatua

Hypnosis is effective for:
  • Visualizing each room in the house/office/garden/car and imagine how it would look minus certain items, or how you wish it would look if de-cluttered.
  • Making a list of items you can release and items you want to hold on to.
  • Working with a trained professional for both encouragement and accountability.
  • Starting small. Success builds momentum - the more you let go the more you will be willing to let go.
  • Breaking things down into reasonable steps. This helps with starting small and eventually completing large organizational projects.
  • Allowing a realistic amount of time for each step. For example, one room per month or as Marie Kondo says "one category at a time." In this way you can relax and go through things at your own pace and decide what is worth keeping and what can find a new home.
  • This can also be applied to "virtual clutter" such as photos, emails, accounts, social media, files, floppy disks, hardrives, zip disks, cd roms, even what is stored in the cloud. It might be free now, but you will pay for it soon enough.

Emotional Clutter can be past or current relationships, parents ("if it's not one thing, it's your mother"), spouses, family members, lovers, past trauma, grief, or plain old stress. Personally, even reading on Facebook about divorces, breakups, pets dying, has added to overwhelming feelings.

Hypnotherapy works to:
  • Visualize solutions to problems in relationships.
  • Cord cutting in order to experience complete closure.
  • Chakra clearing to make way for new, healthy relationships.
  • Change past stories of being a victim to being a hero of your own life.
  • Deal with parents or negative ancestral patterns.
  • Let go of unhealthy, outmoded coping mechanisms and replace them with new ones. Such as changing overeating, smoking, and never feeling good enough.

Intellectual clutter can be things such as procrastination, multitasking, getting depressed by online news, spending too much time internet surfing, video games, tv shows, social media, texting, phone calls, over-committing to other people's agendas.

Hypnosis is useful for:
  • Discovering your personal productive time in order to complete your Most Important Tasks.
  • Letting go of commitments - it is ok to disappoint people.
  • Learning how to tap into your personal sense of priorities.
  • Letting go of false needs and false approval such as being addicted to social media.
  • Creating deeply relaxing times to feel balance in your life.
  • Letting go of multitasking. Learn how to focus and simplify through guided meditations.

Using Hypnosis to Change Habits

Giving up coffee was one of the most difficult yet ultimately rewarding experiences in my life. While coffee is fine for some folks, I noticed it made me anxious and nervous, quite simply, contributed to my stress. In addition, it was contributing to some serious stomach problems. So I decided to stop doing something which had been a daily thing for me since I was twenty-one. I love coffee and even owned a cafe, at one point I drank more coffee each day than I care to remember. Still, I had to change the habit because it was impacting my health, so I decided to use hypnosis.

I attempted going cold-turkey before and couldn't do it, the headaches were awful. During a hypnosis session I realized I was attached to the morning ritual of making and drinking a hot beverage, so I could make the kinder, gentler choice of substituting coffee with tea. I weaned myself off of coffee over six weeks, gradually substituting green tea. I still use my coffee machine to make my tea water - old habits die hard - but definitely feel a lot calmer and on a more even keel.

What I love about hypnosis is that everyone has their own unique solution to their problem inside them, waiting to be discovered. This was mine, what is yours? What will you discover is your way to change negative habits and turn them into positive ones? Feel free to call, email, or schedule online if you want to use hypnosis to help you on your way.

Powerful Affirmations

Focused Intentions
When a client comes for a session, the first step is to identify their goals and desired outcome. During hypnosis in particular, the client can imagine a new way of being and can take the steps to have it happen, as well as tap into their motivation as a program to success. During trance, the client is given suggestions to support their solutions. For example, I am relaxed and centered, and every moment counts. Affirmations are used in transpersonal psychology, but are also cross cultural. Prayers, mantras, chants, and blessings affirm one's place in the universe. Even something as little as saying bless you or Gesundheit after a sneeze is that affirmation of May you be blessed with health. We are also familiar with the expressions Bon Appetit or One day at a time.

Positive Thinking Works
Affirmations can be found everywhere: fortune cookies, horoscopes, angel cards, bumper stickers, quotes, and even lines from your favorite songs. I recently read that Melissa Ethridge kept a scrap of paper on which her surgeon had scribbled "You will be fine" next to her bed during her treatment for breast cancer, and how important it was for her to repeat those words as part of her healing process.

Power of Suggestion
The suggestions used are affirmations, a positive way to reinforce the client process. Affirmations work both during trance and as an anchor in daily life to continue to activate the subconscious mind and create constructive associations. As seen the documentary, What the Bleep Do We Know? it is in this way you can create new neural pathways to release different neuro chemicals then the ones you could be addicted to out of past programming.

Gentle Reminders
Affirmations can be placed anywhere: in your bathroom, on mirrors, in your car, your fridge, your wallet, your computer screen saver. In my car I have a little dashboard compartment that when I flip up reveals the quote, "She Who Laughs, Lasts."
Affirmations are especially effective when put into the third person, and when put into the past tense. They change wishful thinking into willful thinking. Notice the difference in the saying "I wish I didn't have a broken heart"to "I will heal my broken heart" to "You have healed your heart."

Power of Affirmations
From the dictionary - To affirm: to state or assert positively; to maintain as true; to confirm. Quite simply to make firm - to use as a foundation or basis for one's beliefs. Affirmations offer comfort, support and motivation. One of favorites, "...you are a child of the universe no less than the trees or stars, and whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should... -From 'Desiderata' by Max Ehrmann

Emotional Deposits
When we compliment another person, we are affirming their reality, we build their bank of self esteem by giving them an emotional deposit. Affirmations repeated for yourself add to your own bank of self-esteem for a feelings of confidence and personal success. Practice saying, I am a co-creator of my reality. I am now creating my life exactly as I want it.

Engage Your Senses
Affirmations are especially effective when used with other modalities, for example using a hand mudra or other physical cue, or associating it with a scent. One client had a fear of flying, but through hypnosis she associated the smell of lavender with being relaxed, and before each flight would breathe in a sachet of lavender to feel calm and at ease.
  Change is Our Friend

When you stop seeing your affirmation, it's often because you have incorporated that message, or that message no longer serves you. Change your affirmations as you evolve into who you want to become. As my friend Laurie Biggers says, "Embrace Change as a doorway to a more peaceful existence."

Why do People use Hypnotherapy?

Since 1986 I have been reading the cards, charting the stars, leading people to their deepest and most heartfelt visions. I see tarot and astrology as a map, where my role is to be a guide, and people have free will and free choice to create direction in their lives. Yet people would stay stuck, at the crossroads, in their own emotional blocks or perceived limitations, which is how I came to be interested in hypnotherapy.

Hypnosis involves inviting a state of trance, a state of relaxed focused concentration, where one is more open to suggestion, particularly if they are your own suggestions. The solution always lies within, and my role is to facilitate my client discovering deep insights into their current situation, providing an opportunity for personal growth and change.

Psychotherapy is a wonderful tool, but can feel akin to taking a salt shaker and pouring it into your hand, examining every crystal, every traumatic or painful event, one by one, which can take years and years for the healing to occur. Hypnotherapy is chucking it over your shoulder, allowing for completion, closure, and willingness to stop perpetuating being a victim but to become one's own hero and best ally instead, to change one's inner critic to become one's inner coach instead.

My clients have ranged from seven year olds having nightmares to seventy year olds wanting to feel confident to pass their drivers test. A few other cases include:

  • A client trying to decide whether to leave their marriage of twenty years used polarity to discover a third solution to the dilemma
  • A pre surgery client who used hypnosis to harness their inner healer cut their recovery time by two thirds
  • An executive trying to decide whether to leave the company or find a new position did a shamanic journey to receive important messages from internal guides
  • A person with test anxiety who needed to upgrade their skills called upon their inner resources, specifically their fifth grade teacher and reinstated a joy of learning
  • A college student who had extreme anxiety after leaving their parents now has anchored the calm they feel with them in their own hands, so at any time they can feel reassured
  • A parent who was traumatized after witnessing their daughter's car getting hit, who wanted to change the "what if" mentality to "what is"
  • Another parent who was quitting smoking as they thought about death twenty times a day and felt guilty about their kids and was in extreme fear of getting cancer, who is now anchored and has a ritual to remind them of feeling deeply content
  • A being who was in touch with their own denial after their spouse entered rehab and has found a method to both contain and get rid of unwanted anger
  • An emergency professional who experienced claustrophobia and panic attacks during their recertification who visualized passing with flying colors
  • A firefighter who had experienced post traumatic stress after falling through a burning floor and discovered that fear was really their friend
  • An entity with anorexia who was learning how to take care and nourish themselves by being in touch with their inner council of beings
  • A client who was applying to go back to school for their masters who was dealing with procrastination and self sabotage, who has been using EFT for self acceptance
  • A person with the compulsion to pull out their eyebrows and eyelashes who reframed this habit to picking the strings of their guitar
  • A human who was getting off of anti depressants and was looking for natural methods to feel balanced and relaxed by learning breath work
  • A person who wanted to experience past life regressions even though this is against their religious beliefs, thinks this will help them find new love
  • A being who had been hospitalized for six months who wanted to learn pain management techniques in order to walk again

Whether you are going through a mid life crisis, Saturn return, feeling overly stressed or just reviewing what would make your life healthier and happier, hypnosis is a tool for you. All hypnosis is self hypnosis, and I will teach you techniques to feel calm, tranquil and relaxed; to change unwanted habits into healthier coping patterns, and give you the heartfelt encouragement and one on one coaching to create long term, personal successful solutions.

There is more information on my website, as well as frequently asked questions, and I now have self empowerment videos on Youtube including an introduction to hypnosis and a simple self hypnosis technique. Good clients for me is anyone ready to embrace change for a more peaceful existence by being willing to discover insights and live with more fullness. Call for your appointment today!

Hypnosis for Self-Liberation

Imagine for a moment having iron shackles around your neck, wrists, ankles. These are attached to a heavy, metal ball by a long, clanking chain. Every step is a struggle, your hands are tied, you are completely stuck in a rut. These are your addictions - those negative habits, negative thought patterns, self doubt, and self criticism that we are slave to, that weigh us down. We know better - but we keep doing it. It could be smoking, over eating, over drinking, over working, over sleeping, too much tv/internet/cell phone/video games/texting, picking fights with your spouse, or being overly critical. Even shame, fear, and worry are a burden, and many people are attached to pain and suffering as a way of being.

There’s another form of self-imprisonment. These are the golden handcuffs - staying too long in a job, marriage or other family situation with the lure of money or some other benefit, although with a huge emotional price. Take a moment to be honest with yourself - where do you feel tied to an unhealthy behavior, outmoded coping mechanism, or unproductive habit? Or is there somebody in your life who is shackled, but you are carrying their ball and chain in a codependent relationship, enabling them to stay a prisoner of unhealthy behaviors?

The beauty of hypnotherapy is discovering that you already hold the key to your personal liberation. By simply taking the time to relax, go within, and explore your personal landscape, you empower yourself to take full responsibility for your health and happiness. Hypnosis is a natural and effective way to create a conscious connection between the your heart and your mind, between what you feel and what you know, between what you think and what you do. The key is to lead a life based on conscious choices. The key leads to a proactive approach which results in independence, increased self esteem and deep personal satisfaction.

Often my clients refer to their negative behavior as their demons. They feel compelled, obsessed or out of control when it comes to sugar, nicotine or alcohol. Some feel gripped by jealousy, perfectionism, or self doubt.  They say, “The devil made me do it”  and have an “I can’t help myself” attitude. The truth is: you are the only one who can help yourself. All healing is self healing - all hypnosis is self hypnosis. These are the stories we keep telling ourselves, the scripts, that become ingrained and self-fulfilling prophecies. Often these addictions arose from coping mechanisms from the past. For example, a client who associated smoking with autonomy as the first time they felt like a grown up was when as a teenager they would smoke behind the barn with an older cousin. The first step is to identify what need is being met and to become friends with the devil - to embrace all the parts of the self, even the unhealthy ones. Once you have looked at yourself in a loving and accepting way, changes can begin. That’s when people stop being a victim and start being a hero.

Socrates said, “An un-examined life is not worth living.” It is our unique capacity for self awareness that allows us to improve and evolve, both as individuals and as a society. Liberating ourselves from past conditioning, whether we learned it from our parents, schools or culture, allows us to truly experience the freedom in becoming our authentic selves, self actualized and self fulfilled. There is often a sense of rebirth as clients access both their imagination and their power to see themselves as successful, confident, and overflowing with self esteem.

Some examples: One of my clients who struggled with poor money habits accessed their inner Philanthropist, in order to easily pay their back-taxes once they reframed it as "supporting their community." Another who was plagued with social anxiety tapped into her inner J-Lo in order to feel completely at ease in any social situation. A third who was trapped in their career experienced a Shamanic Journey where his spirit guide was Indiana Jones, now goes by the affirmation, “What would Indy do?” as he visualizes himself striding down the corridors of his corporation. Each of these archetypes had personal meaning and they assisted the client to tap into the richness of the subconscious, to create inner resources and to develop a secure sense of self that was deeply in touch with what they truly wanted in life.

Carl Jung says that the only way to change a habit is to replace it with a better habit. By tapping into your inner wisdom, creating positive affirmations and powerful visualizations, the neural pathways in the brain shift in order to integrate new behaviours and ways of being.  Thus a chronic coffee drinker developed a green tea habit.  Another client who was a smoker decided to become addicted to health instead. And the woman who could not get over her husband’s infidelity discovered the ability to focus on her own beauty and self love.

Hypnotherapy is a way to live an abundant life, as free as the white dove flying in the blue sky, liberated from the shackles of the past and creating a future full of vision, hope, and optimism. It is so worth the investment, to take some time to experience insights for personal growth, to achieve inner peace and embrace transformation. When you are ready to cast off your own chains, try hypnosis and discover the key to your own personal liberation.

Hypnobirthing

I received this lovely email from one of my hypnobirthing clients:

Dear Kayla,

THANK YOU! I used my pain "knob" which is a camera lens many times and turned it up to a yellow in color and then down to a blue to show myself I could shift the level I was feeling. I also put myself in my belly with her and went through a contraction with the pressure with her and told her we were doing it together I was right there holding her hand. I could not believe how the two helped manage the pain and get through it.

It was magical and perfect! At the very beginning of my labor I tried to do self hypnosis on myself and visualize my camera lens and it going to blue for my pain. Even though  the contractions got strong and may have been uncomfortable and every 2-3 minutes, I was completely fine and as soon as I felt it get strong in a contraction I just visualized my camera lens and turning the lens down to blue and it would help me refocus/redirect my pain and smooth it out.

At eleven and a half hours I thought wow this is not going as quick, smooth etc as I had hoped since I was still only 6 cm, but I was fine managing the discomfort. Once I hit that last 10 minutes when I completely dilated in my head I actually thought, "wow there is no way this is happening, I can get through this! That was so easy I just went from 6 to 10 in less than 15 minutes and now I just have to push her out!" And then a minute and a half later she was laying on me. I realized all in those quick moments this was everything I needed and hoped it would be and that it could not possibly have been a smoother easier labor. Even though it was 12 hrs and Iylees was 6.5, this one was actually much easier, quicker due to amount of actual active labor and less painful then Iylees birth.

So again Thank You, I feel that your support and guidance was a huge
factor in such a smooth, easy labor. Oh even Adam said during labor
once or twice, "honey are you doing your hypnosis, don't forget to use
your camera lens." It was awesome!

A Week in the Life of a Santa Cruz Hypnotherapist

I see about ten to fifteen clients a week at my West side office. Here is a sampling of a typical week for a Santa Cruz hypnotherapist:
  • A person who suffers from insomnia. We made a recording they can listen to before bed to relax their body and mind as well as to remember more of their dreams.
  • A parent, releasing grief after the death of their son. We have been doing a Reiki and hypnotherapy combination, biweekly sessions for two years, focused mostly on soul retrieval work. They're now inspired to open a skateboard park to commemorate their son.
  • An initial hypnosis session for a business person interested in transforming stress and rage. We focus on peace and abundance, facing debts, pending divorce, and releasing pains in the neck.
  • A student taking private tarot lessons. They started with weekly hypnotherapy sessions for 15 months, and is using self hypnosis for self empowerment. Now they are enrolled in the ten week program to learn professional tarot reading as a form of income.
  • A regular client who has done monthly tarot readings for two years. This is their check in system and now they are doing weekly hypnosis sessions for deciding on a life path.
  • A professional coming in for astrology lessons, who used hypnotherapy and reiki for personal transformation for the past nine months. Now they are digging deeper while going through job transition and seeking a soul mate.
  • A new client for an astrology reading, who feels controlled by their relationships and seeking self realization and self actualization while creating an interdependent relationship with their new love.
  • A student using hypnotherapy in order to control sugar for weight management/diabetes. Three sessions so far, has been drinking less, discovering new sensualist pleasures instead of food as a life reward
  • An ongoing hypnotherapy client, looking for what makes their heart sing. We have been doing bi weekly sessions for one year now, focused on selling their business and getting in touch with inner council for financial advice. Now they are pregnant and planning on hypnobirthing for a healthy, easy birth and transition into parenthood.
  • An athlete, using hypnotherapy in retraining body mind for sports enhancement. Uses visualization for both ingraining the perfect throw and to let go of any stress both during game and greater stresses in life, such as work, mother in law, inner critic, etc.
  • A freshman in college, terrified of leaving home. We have done monthly sessions for 6 months, using hypnotherapy to anchor feelings of self esteem, love and acceptance.

There is a saying, "Discontent is the first step in progress". My ideal client is ready for change, willing to do the work, and open to new perspectives. I am here to counsel you in joy through experiencing insights for personal change and transformation. Call or email for your appointment today - the time is now!

Warmly,

Kayla

Phobias & Money

I received this comment on my video, A Simple Self Hypnosis Technique:
Yes this does indeed work but how can I use this to overcome the fear of a phobia without having to pay money to see a hypnotherapist?

Well, of course it will depend on what phobia you have, how long you have had it, and how intense it is. That being said, I'd recommend doing the simple self hypnosis technique daily and adding in imagining yourself successfully dealing with the phobia.

For example, I had a client with severe claustrophobia who needed an MRI. We did three sessions in three days, anchoring her feelings of being calm and centered then having her practice in her head doing the self hypnosis technique on the way to the hospital, in the hospital waiting room, during the MRI, and afterwards coming home. She was able to go through the procedure without any panic feelings whatsoever. Visualizing your self before, during, and after helps with overcoming phobias. This has also worked with clients who have had a variety of phobias including fear of flying, social anxiety and public speaking.

On a different note, it is worth it to pay a hypnotherapist. Medicare charges seniors a copay because research showed that people who pay get better. Working with a trained professional is usually much more efficient - think of the difference in working with a guitar teacher rather trying to learn guitar by yourself. All of my sessions are recorded for home practice. It is an investment in yourself and you are worth it! Call or email for your appointment today.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis Works!
I joined a new referral site and they asked interesting questions about my role as a hypnotherapist that I thought these were well worth sharing. Enjoy!

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Clients experience insights for personal growth and transformation. Both hypnosis and Reiki are incredibly effective for managing stress, releasing blocks, and discovering long term, successful solutions. Commonly people come in for: insomnia, weight management, stress management, smoking cessation and other habit changes. Hypnobirthing, pain management and accelerated healing are also benefits of hypnosis. On the trans-spiritual side, sessions can be focused on accessing inner guides, dream work or past life regressions. Enhanced performance, whether for a test, sports event or public speaking, comes with the guidance and positive reinforcement that hypnotherapy provides. Please call or email with any questions!

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. There are a few things in life you never want to buy at a discount: brain surgery, dentistry, parachutes and hypnotherapy. And Medicare has a copay as studies show that people who pay get better!

Hypnotherapy is an investment in yourself. It is most successful for people who are willing to put in the time, over a length of time. According to American Health Magazine, hypnotherapy has a 93% success rate after just 6 sessions. Dedicating this time to go deep within yourself is a way to value, honor, and truly listen to your deeper wisdom.

Practicing the Simple Self-Hypnosis technique between sessions in the best way to accelerate the process, integrate the information, and put into action all that your truly want in life.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. Hypnotherapy is nothing like stage hypnotism. Kayla does not have a pocket watch, nor can she make you cluck like a dog or bark like a chicken.

All hypnosis is really self-hypnosis, and Kayla's role is simply to guide you into a relaxed, focused state of concentration. When in this "trance" you are completely aware, able to remember everything clearly, can communicate easily and are always in control. Kayla encourages her clients to record their sessions for home reinforcement.

Please check out Kayla's YouTube video "A Simple Self Hypnosis Technique" and decide for yourself if you would like to take the work to the next level by working with Kayla.

Hypnobirthing

I received this lovely email from one of my hypnobirthing clients:

Dear Kayla,

THANK YOU! At the very beginning of my labor I tried to do self hypnosis on myself and visualize my "camera lens and it going to blue for my pain.

Once I hit that last 10 minutes when I completely dilated, in my head I actually thought, "wow there is no way this is happening, I can get through this! That was so easy I just went from 6 to 10 in less than 15 minutes and now I just have to push her out!" And then a minute and a half later she was laying on me. I realized all in those quick moments this was everything I needed and hoped it would be and that it could not possibly have been a smoother easier labor.

Even though it was 12 hrs and my other daughter's was 6.5, this one was actually much easier, quicker due to amount of actual active labor and less painful then my first birth.
So again Thank You, I feel that your support and guidance was a huge factor in such a smooth, easy labor. Oh even my husband said during labor once or twice, "honey are you doing your hypnosis, don't forget to use your camera lens." It was awesome!

Pre-Surgery Hypnosis

I worked with a client who had lost one of his eyes to cancer. He was going to have an intensive surgery procedure to seal the empty socket shut so that he could go back to surfing. He was going to be sedated for ten days and in the hospital for thirty days.

We did eight sessions of "acu-hyp" - hypnosis during an acupuncture session. He focused on letting go of his anger at the failure of his five past surgeries and the stress of his divorce, as well as affirming that he had always been a fast healer and that his body would respond to the new grafts.

Well, he was only sedated for one day and out of the hospital in ten days! You can imagine the enormous savings on the hospital bill. It is amazing to me that insurance will not pay for hypnosis when it is so effective in accelerating the healing process.

If you or someone you know is going into surgery, consider the benefits of hypnosis as a part of your process. Feel free to call or email with any questions!

Warmly,

Kayla
