Understanding the Highly Sensitive Child and Teen

Understanding the Highly Sensitive Child and Teen
Weekend Workshop with Dr. Elaine Aron, Alane Freund, MS, MA, LMFT, and Candy Crawford, MSW, LCSW.

July 20 - 22, 2018
Friday - Sunday, 2 nights
1440 Multiversity, 800 Bethany Dr, Scotts Valley, CA 95066

Is your child highly sensitive? An observer who asks deep questions? Easily overstimulated? Or often distressed by the injustice or suffering of others?  Over 20 percent of children have this trait often overlooked by “one-size-fits-all” parenting advice. Do you find the usual approaches just aren’t working with your highly sensitive child?

Taught by Alane Freund, MS, MA, LMFT, and Candy Crawford, MSW, LCSW—experts on family therapy, parenting, and high sensitivity—this weekend will empower and educate parents and professionals to recognize, honor, and navigate the unique challenges and gifts highly sensitive children present. Through a balance of learning, support, discussion, small group work, and rejuvenating self-care, you will learn:
  • How to recognize the unique temperaments and traits associated with high sensitivity and identify the differences between these and common childhood diagnoses
  • Why temperament matters in parenting and how to safely and effectively provide highly sensitive children and teens with what they need most
  • How parents, teachers, and professionals can best equip themselves to handle the unique bonds and challenges of being in close relationship with highly sensitive kids
  • The gifts highly sensitive children bring to the world and how to help these gifts thrive in a predominately “nonsensitive” culture.
Based on the book The Highly Sensitive Child by keynote speaker Elaine N. Aron, PhD, psychologist and pioneer in the study of this trait, this is the first course ever to focus on caring for and raising highly sensitive children and teens. Leave with a deeper appreciation for them, tools to enhance your influence and role in their lives, and a community of support in caring for them.

The workshop is for parents and professionals who work with children who either live with or work with the 20% of the population that is highly sensitive.
