When I was young, my mom would knit
I realize now this was her "True Grit"
Meeting with other women
She could not get a credit card then
At least she could still

Get an abortion

Without gritting teeth, crossing borders
Going against the current orders
Sand in the abalone, sand in the clam,
Grit reveals what is true, what is sham

Becoming a woman after an innocent girl
Realizing our collective strength is our pearl
Sandbagged no more, working to be free
