Reiki for Grief and Sorrow

Reiki is Soothing, Comforting
Stuck in sadness? Consider recieving Reiki for unresolved grief, broken hearted feelings and transforming sorrow...

Reiki works well as a tool to move through grief, regret and remorse. Reiki consists of a gentle loving touch which passes energy through the body. Humans respond to touch as a source of comfort, compassion and empathy, all qualities needed during times of loss, transition and mourning.

While the death of a loved is traumatic, so is the death of a marriage through divorce or death of dream when losing a job or home. Anger can accompany the pain of loss, and if turned inward can result in isolation and depression. Reiki helps release emotional stagnation and finds healthy ways to channel frustration, overwhelm, and depression so that you can feel clarity, joy and deep peace. Namaste.

Self Meditate Instead of Self Medicate

When we are stressed, the sympathetic nervous system kicks in, usually referred to as the fight or flight syndrome. Muscles tense, breathing becomes shallow, blood is diverted from the stomach and intestines, adrenaline and other hormones are released. We live in a stressful world that includes battling traffic, waiting in long lines, working long hours to pay bills as well as interpersonal relationships, whether parenting a child or taking care of an elder. Just hearing the news and feeling helpless about the situation in Syria can add to feelings of hopelessness, let alone looking at Facebook and reading about a friends pet dying or a favorite couple getting divorced. This type of low grade stress, like a low grade fever, is taxing on the body, causes poor digestion, lack of sleep and generalizing feelings of anxiety, anger, nervousness or depression.

It is no wonder we have a rise in alcoholism, over eating and addiction to prescription drugs, all ways to self medicate in order to experience some degree of comfort or relaxation. However, these are band aid solutions that do little to really alleviate the underlying stress and in fact in the long run only contribute more to one's problems. Learning better coping skills in order to handle stress is a form of emotional intelligence that brings ease, increase energy, creativity and simply joy in life.

Self-hypnosis is a prime way to manage one's emotions rather than letting emotions manage you. Just taking a few deep, calming breaths allows the parasympathetic nervous system to kick back in. Inviting deeper relaxation allows the muscles to relax, endorphins to be released, the blood to go back into the belly and the brain, so thinking is clearer and the whole body operates normally. In fact, twenty minutes of hypnosis is the same as a two hour nap, allowing the cells to regenerate, the mind to recuperate and healing on all levels to occur.

All healing is self healing, and really, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. Working with a hypnotherapist merely allows you to be guided deeper inside and facilitates the process. Learning self-hypnosis is a key in each of my sessions so that you can experience feelings of deep calm, confidence, and equanimity no matter what - running late for an appointment, doing public speaking, or being stuck on an airplane with a crying baby. Imagine feeling blissfully detached while stuck in rush hour traffic, or allowing critical comments from a family member at Thanksgiving to simply wash over you like a cool breeze.

Hypnosis also enhances motivation, improves performance, and aligns the body and mind for long term successful solutions. So instead of self medicating, try self meditating. The power is within you, the solutions are deep inside. You can learn a simple self hypnosis technique from my video on YouTube, or come on in for a session to get all the heartfelt encouragement and guidance you need from a trained professional.

Magical Times Empowerment Cards

It is early in the morning, the cat is nestled on my lap, green tea is steaming beside me as I sit upstairs in my meditation space, sunlight streaming through the window, warming my back and illuminating my altar. I close my eyes, take a few cleansing breaths and set my intentions for the day. Asking the universe for guidance, I pull three cards from The Magical Times Empowerment Cards written and illustrated by Jody Bergsma, recently published by US Games Systems.

The first card I pull with my left hand, representing what is in my heart today. I draw a pale turquoise card titled "Faith" which shows an angelic figure, head bowed, with a kind smile on their face. The card reads, "Believe you are not alone. Spirit is right beside you. Ask for guidance and it will come." I spend a few minutes reflecting on the gentle strength portrayed, reaching for my pen and writing in my journal the type off guidance I feel I need in this moment.

The second card I pull with my right hand, representing what is in my head. Another pale turquoise card, this time with the title of "Expectation". A fairy in a green floral dress with lovely, lavender wings rides on the back of a dove while gazing at another dove flying near by. The card reads, "Be open for whatever comes next. It might just be the music your heart's been waiting to hear." I find it interesting that my head card is reminding me of what my heart wants to hear, and I ponder upon the power of creating positive expectations combined with the guidance I have just asked for.

The third card I pull with both hands, combining my head and my heart to discover my soul's purpose. I am greeting with a vivid, burnt orange card emblazoned with a winged dragon who seems to be guarding a shield that also has a dragon it, created out of Celtic knot work. The title here is "Energy" and the message works beautifully with the other two cards: "Life force is flowing. Open yourself to receive the power from within". I feel a great sense of empowerment and take a moment to tap into my third chakra, the solar plexus, the center of will power. I feel pleased with the sense of combining faith and expectation to develop my inner power for more sustained and sustainable energy, letting go of past burn out and disappointments and replacing these with renewed optimism, enthusiasm and encouragement. I review my goals, scribbling out those that are simply busy work and create a simpler, more focused list that is not only doable but truly enjoyable.

The Magical Times Empowerment Cards come in a sturdy box with a precious fairy on the cover, and each card is delightfully thick, nothing flimsy about this deck. The accompanying LWB has further affirmations and suggested spreads that make for both good meditation focal points as well as excellent journal prompts. For example, the Energy card states, "Today I feel strong. my head and heart are clear and focused. I will grab this magic moment with all of its potential and act. I will not be scattered. I will not waste time. I will not procrastinate, but instead will move forward with power".

I highly recommend gifting your self or a loved one a set of The Magical Times Empowerment Cards. Gentle and powerful, inspiring and uplifting, the delightful images and uplifting messages will be well received. Jody has created a wonderful tool that is easily accessible and immensely shareable. Brava!

"Be careful of your thoughts,
For they become your words.

Be careful of your words,
For they become your actions.

Be careful of your actions,
For they become your habits.

Be careful of your habits,
For they become your character.

Be careful of your character,
For your character becomes your destiny"

Reiki as Vibrational Healing

Raise Your Vibration
Reiki as Vibrational Healing

Reiki is a form of vibrational healing, and I am always aware of raising my vibration to the highest octave in order to inspire and tune my client's vibration.

I purify myself each morning after exercising, picking essential oils such as jasmine and rose for their superior qualities. I choose my clothes carefully, noticing the days where I reach for blacks and grays and consciously choosing more vibrant colors, deep purples and reds.

The colors in the office are soft and muted, as is both the lighting and music. Soft flannel sheets and a warmy blanket are on the massage table. The ambiance is muted, a hybrid of temple and a spa.

After a brief intake, the client removes their shoes and lies on the table fully dressed, either on top or under the blanket. I have them take a few deep cleansing breaths, set an affirmation, and begin the energy work with the intention for the highest good.

Most clients describe Reiki as a warm, relaxing glow that permeates their body, bringing deep relaxation, release and a sense of contentment, that all is well. it is in this relaxed state that they usually discover solutions, ways of beings, and steps to continue to create ease in their lives. I have worked with mothers who have lost their children, fathers who are angrgry at being disrespected, adult children of alcoholics breaking the chains of the past, teenagers forging new patterns of their own making. In each case, I feel humbled, grateful to be included in their process, and always filled with an indescribable feeling of hope and optimism. Indeed, all is well.

Power of Hypnosis

Discover the Power of Hypnosis

Did you know that traditional psychoanalysis has a 38% success rate after 600 sessions? That's once a week for twelve years. Behavior therapy has a 72% success rate after 22 sessions, once a week for about six months. Hypnotherapy has a 93% success rate after 6 sessions. (American Health Magazine study).

Usually I recommend a client start with three sessions, although they will know after the first one if hypnotherapy is right for them. The first session is 90 minutes long, and we easily spend an hour doing an intake, ie listening to the client tell their story, define their goals, and create an action plan. Simply telling one's truth to an attentive listener is a form of hypnosis known as open eyed trance, much like being on a road trip and conversing with a good friend. I teach a simple self hypnosis technique and usually guide the client into three short trances of 5-10 minutes each.

In a typical session, we chat for 15 minutes to define goals and intentions. The client then sits or lies down on massage table. I do a basic relaxation and a count down to deepen trance. We spend 25-45 minutes exploring the inner landscape. Then I do a count up and check in. Homework is assigned.

The second session is devoted to establishing inner resources. This can mean guiding the client to what is called a safe space, connecting with sources of strength, and anchoring any feelings of well being in the body. Sometimes we do a fantasy vacation, where the client enjoys feelings of peace and deep relaxation, sometimes we do a shamanic journey, in order to meet spirit guides including animals, plants and Divine beings.

The third session is often when the real work begins. By now the client and I are used to each other, they know what to expect, and the real layers of the onion begin to unfold. Here we may do work to put unhealthy habits or negative emotions in what is called a container, to either be disposed of or put away for later. Also an imaginary screen is often used to create emotional distance for the client, yet away to review the past and envision the future.

Subsequent sessions serve to further peel the layers, reinforce desired states of being, and continue to teach self hypnosis techniques to the client. For example, we may examine the inner critic and change it to an inner coach, get in touch with an inner nurturer as well as the inner child, or reactive ideomotor signals, a technique to really tap into our inner wisdom. As well as age regression and progression, we can do both past life regressions and future life progressions. Dream work often comes up in hypnotherapy, as here is a natural state where the subconscious is speaking to us through symbols and metaphors.

Indeed, much of hypnosis feels like being in a lucid dream. It is easy for the client to communicate and to remember everything that they experienced while in trance. Most clients record their sessions on their phones, so that they can review the material and in fact take it much further. All hypnosis is self hypnosis, just as all healing is self healing. Working with a hypnotherapist is helpful in the process of being gentle guided and being given the heartfelt encouragement you need. Try some hypnosis today!

Relationship reading with The Ancestral Path Tarot

The Ancestral Path Tarot by Julia Cuccia-Watts draws from four different ancient cultures in its' depictions of archetypal images found in the tarot. First published in 1995, this multicultural deck is a welcomed addition to my personal collection. I am always leery of cultural appropriation, however the respect and inherent universal messages that are truly cross cultural give new meaning and insight for the querent. Cuccia - Watts writes in the little white book, "We are all embryonic ancestors, similar to the fetus in the Hanged One image in the Ancestral Path Tarot. Through the placental cord of cultural transmission, we imbibe the world view of those who shaped and adapted it. We are nourished on the legacy of their belief systems."

Four ancestral cultures at specific historical times are used in creating the minor arcana - the Egyptian nineteenth dynasty of Ramses II for staves; Arthurian Britain for cups; post-contact America for Pentacles (called sacred circles); and the Japanese feudal era for swords. The major arcana are a mix of many cultures, including modern day, most notably the fool card portraying a woman doing a tarot reading, most likely a self portrait by the artist, and the judgment card which has a surreal image of a woman floating from her bed through a portal into another dimension where a helping hand reaches for her.

I did a twelve card relationship reading with my sweetie with the Ancestral Path tarot. After setting our intentions, we took turns pulling four cards each:
1) What am I bringing to this relationship?
2) What am I getting out of this relationship?
3) What is my foundation for this relationship?
4) What are my ambitions for this relationship?

Then we pulled another four cards together:
5) What is the significance of this relationship?
6) what is promoting this relationship?
7) What are the challenges in this relationship?
8) What is the gift/lesson in this relationship?

After pulling each card, we would describe what each saw in it to each other, then read the lwb out loud, and last tell each other what personal meaning we got from each card and how we saw it as a reflection of our relationship. It is always interesting to try to pull cards together, and on the challenge card my partner suggested that we pull the card with our lips. We spread the cards out on the coffee table and had a fun time bumping noses while giggling and trying to pick a card together with our lips. While usually I don't recommend licking your tarot cards, certainly this added a lot of joy to the reading!

My partner aka The Tarot Skeptic really loved these cards and commented on how many he thought were beautiful, in particular he liked the Eight of Staves, which has eight ibis' flying across the sky, giving a real sense of what is up in the air. There is so much detail on every card, especially in the expressions of the faces, from the ennui shown on the Four of Cups to the mystery of the Queen of Cups, leading one to ponder as to what is really going on inside, both in the card and the querent.

Overall I am quite impressed with the Ancestral Path Tarot and look forward to working with much more, both for my personal readings and for tarot readings with my clients. There is some wonderful descriptions in the introduction of the lwb of the four suits and in particular the symbolism used for the aces, but the actual card descriptions are fairly generic. I would love to get a companion book to go much further into the mythology, legends and history of each of these cultures. As Cuccia- Watts states, "The emphasis on the path of the ancestors...is not the anthropological emphasis on the cults of the dead, but on a living tradition from all human cultures available for us to factor into our world view."

Blessed Be.

Feeling Out of Whack? Try Grounding, Cleaning and Aligning the Chakras

Mercury retrograde brings up a lot for everyone, and I notice it is not just cars that are our of alignment during this period. Backing up your computer is always a good thing to do, but what about rebooting your energetic being?

I decided to practice the exercises from The Psychic Healing Book by Amy Wallace and Bill Henken. Specifically: grounding, cleaning and aligning the chakras. I worked on myself three times over three days, then with a regular clients over two weeks. Both of us found it very useful, energizing and powerful.

For my self, I found it best to do the exercises while sitting out side on the deck in fresh air, aware of the blessing of California sunshine, drawing it's energy deep into my being. Afterwards I would do some weeding to literally touch the earth.

In the grounding exercise, I noticed that sending energy down the tailbone was very different from sending in through my legs and feet. There was a tingling in my sacrum and I could feel the earth energy rise with each inhale. In the clearing and aligning exercise, I found that sending orange light into each of the chakras felt quite refreshing. At the end of the meditation, I pushed the energy out my crown chakra to create a fountain of light around me, visualizing any chinks in my aura becoming whole and filled until I felt surrounded in a golden bubble. I noticed having lots of energy for the rest of the day.

The next two practice sessions each went a little longer, a little deeper. I experienced feelings of contentment and well being. I also experienced being able to stay in one chakra for a longer time, exploring colors, organs, smells, glands, feelings of imbalance and flashes of insight - that "aha!" feeling, of knowing what I need to do next for myself, spanning from going to acupuncture for a spring tune up to including grapefruit in my diet at this time. It was a great way to start each day and set intentions for my self and my clients.

Then I worked with an ongoing client of mine. This client has been a weekly reiki and hypnotherapy client for almost two years, grappling with the recent death of her son. Her affirmation is, "I had a life before, I will have a life again". The first practice went well, I certainly felt more grounded and present. The second session was really powerful.

Usually I start at the client's feet and ground them to the earth. This time I followed the exercise from the book. After having my client take in a few deep cleansing breaths, I began by running energy from dropping down from the base of her spine into the center of the earth, while gently touching her feet. Here we invited the earth energy to rise up through these roots to the sole's if her feet, through her bones, muscles, tissues, atoms and into each of the chakras, along her spine as well as hands and feet.

In a regular chakra tuning I would visualize the color that intuitively or traditionally corresponds to that particular chakra. This time I kept with visualizing the orange light from the center of the earth, coming up through the soles of my feet and through my body into my hands, and thus into the sole's of my clients feet. The energy was red and brown, and I had the impression of roughly hewn statues and carvings before my eyes, reminiscent of Mayan carvings, very tactile. When moving through each of her energy centers, I would experience visions which I would verbalized, all the while thinking, "just be an open channel."

When I reached the crown chakra, I had the client open to all of the celestial, universal and heavenly energies to meet with that earth energy and to pour it's wisdom and universal healing energy through her in any way that would be beneficial now. At this point I stopped speaking until the end of the appointment.

Usually this client will talk nonstop the entire session. From the moment we began she was completely silent, following my words and clearly going deeper and deeper into trance. I observed her eye lids flicker, breathing become more even and shallow, body clearly relaxing. I began to move up her body, moving from feet to knees to hips, touching lightly and feeling the pulses shift and change. My feet were tingling like crazy, as was my tail bone, with every inhalation I could feel pulling up that rich, red, brown earth energy and moving it easily into Joanne's body. With each exhalation, I felt the cool blue and violet, more wispy energies from the heavens, infusing her esthetic body. Behind my closed eyelids, I could easily see her aura, black to begin with then pulsing bright red.

When I got to her head, I sat down on a stool and place my hands on her face. I noticed I was pressing in a little, so consciously started to lighten my touch. The lighter my touch, the more I could feel our molecules melting away, and my fingers began to dissolve into her face. I had that moment of complete oneness, and as I breathed on her crown chakra I knew I was breathing into my self. I could scan down her body and easily see her skeleton, although bright green, with red spots flashing here and there. I wasn't aware of golden energy to send them, so just continued yo channel the reiki for the highest good.

I moved down her right side, touching her shoulder and hand. Here I had a vision that she was bailing out a life boat full to the brim with salt tears with a tea spoon. Suddenly she gabbed a toy bucket instead. The pint of view shifted, and you could see many people in the lifeboat, all helping her bail it out. Now her choice was whether to rejoin the cruise or head off to new waters.

I moved back down to her feet. I got down on my knees and held her ankles while sending orange light down her body, which was appearing electric blue. I stood up and very deliberately began squeezing on her feet and toes, bringing her back into her body, waking up every part slowly and gently. I gave her a long time to reorient then checked in after she drank some water.

She said she had never gone so deep, but it felt like being gently cupped and supported rather than being dropped. Three days later we met again to check in. She was in good spirits and was involved in creating a memorial mural for her son the surfer as well as a blood drive in his honor.

Since then, I have had the opportunity to practice this technique with six hypnotherapy students, several clients and as a part of my morning meditation with my life partner. I have experienced the effects on all levels - astral, etheric, physical, emotional, mental - and have been deeply grateful to do what I would consider a spring clearing of the soul, releasing emotional and mental clutter in particular, making way for increased energy and vitality.

Blessed be.

A Natural Approach to Acid Indigestion

Did you know that about 42% of the United States population has had acid indigestion[1] at some point? Also known as heartburn, acid reflux, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or dyspepsia, acid indigestion is characterized by a burning pain or discomfort that may move from your stomach to your abdomen or chest, or even up into your throat. Other symptoms may include:

  • Chest pain, wheezing, asthma, dry cough, hoarseness, or chronic sore throat
  • Regurgitation: a sour or bitter-tasting acid backing up into your throat or mouth

    1. Bloating, hiccups, flatulence, burping or nausea
    2. Bloody or black stools or bloody vomiting
    3. A narrowing of your esophagus, which creates the sensation of food being stuck in your throat[2]
Acid indigestion is mostly caused by poor eating habits, such as eating late at night, eating spicy or deep fried foods, eating too much or too fast, and poor food combining. Other factors include age, stress level, alcohol, sugar and coffee consumption, as well as:
    1. Eating large meals, lying down or bending over at the waist right after a meal
    2. Being pregnant, overweight or obese
    3. Snacking close to bedtime
    4. Eating certain foods, such as citrus, chocolate, mint, garlic, onions. Avoid eating nightshades: tomatoes, potatoes and eggplant
    5. Smoking cigarettes
    6. Taking aspirin, ibuprofen, certain muscle relaxers, or blood pressure medications[3]
Simply put, stomach acidity can be controlled in the short run through herbs and other complementary modalities and in the long run by monitoring the digestibility of the foods being in eaten. A balanced diet is key to all successful healing. A simple formula is as follows:
    1. Primary foods such as whole grains and proteins each make up 20-30% of diet. Brown rice is highly recommended as it has the same pH as our blood. Proteins repair tissue and maintain metabolism, so eat first grade meats, tofu, tempeh, and beans
    2. Secondary foods such as fresh seasonal vegetables and seaweeds (such as kelp and irish moss)  should make up 30-40% of the diet. These provide important minerals and vitamins, as well as stimulate the elimination of toxins. Amaranth, in particular, is recommended as an acid neutralizing green vegetable.
    3. Tertiary foods such as eggs, dairy and fruit should consist of only 5-10% of diet, while fats and oils such as olive, butter and ghee are about 2%. Fruit is high and sugars, and can be enjoyed seasonally and in moderation. A moderate amount of quality unsaturated fats assists in the burning of stored fats and can lead to weight loss.[4]
    4. Spices are carminatives, which prevent and relieve gas, as well act as digestion aids. A few examples:
    1. Sweet basil is good to use as a tea for indigestion
    2. One or two bay leaves can be added to soup or beans
    3. Ginger tea is of great benefit to the stomach, intestines and circulation[5]
Herbs that are able to act as antacids and effectively neutralize the excess acid in the stomach and intestines are recommended, as well as demulcent herbs that protect the stomach lining. A few recommendations include:
    1. Infusions of fennel mint, dill, chamomile, aniseed or lemon balm taken after a meal may all help to relieve gas and bloating.
    2. Bitter decoctions like gentian or dandelion root taken before a meal stimulate the digestive system. [6]
    3. A heartburn remedy of marshmallow root, hawthorn  berries, peppermint, wild yam root, fennel seed and ginger root can be brewed as a tea and taken as needed. [7]
    4. For stomach acidity, combine 1 dandelion root, 1 part slippery elm, 1/8 part goldenseal and 1/8 part of calamus root can be combined as a decoction or in a gelatin capsule. One half cup of tea or two capsules can be taken every hour as needed. [8]
    5. For a soothing after tea meal, simmer in filtered water 2 parts Marshmallow root, 6 parts Hawthorn berries, 3 parts peppermint, 6 parts Wild Yam, 3 parts fennel seed and 3 parts Ginger root can be simmered for an after meal tea. [9]
Some other natural alternatives for managing acid reflux include:
    1. Practice moderation
    2. Acupuncture treatments
    3. Chiropractic treatments
    4. Stress reduction through hypnosis or meditation
    5. Complete eating three hours before bedtime
    6. Drink 1-2 tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar in an 8 oz. glass of water one to three times a day[10]
While acid indigestion can be controlled by lifesyle changes, improved diet and better eating habits,  it can also be a symptom of a more serious illness, so consult with your primary health care provider if symptoms persist.

Reiki for Specific Parts of the Body

    Gentle Release with Reiki
Reiki for Specific Parts of the Body

If a client has a particular body part that needs attention, of course I spend more time there. For example, one client has a hard time speaking their truth at the work place.

This has manifested in grinding teeth at night and TMJ issues. I do Reiki on the face and neck for the entire hour, spending particular time on EFT points for anger around the eye area and trauma release around the upper lip.

Chiropractic adjustments have also helped this client, a modality that blends well with Reiki. After months of weekly treatments, sessions are now spread out when needed.

What I love about my life right now

I love working in the mornings and coming home to long afternoons completely by my self, well, of course, with the cats. I love driving Amber to school. I love that she is about to start the adventure known as college, I am equal parts proud and scared, the empty nest looms on the horizon, making me grateful for this day.
I love being in my beautiful house, which is clean, tidy and organized, colorful and bright, full of joy, sunlight, plants and crystals. I love my garden, I love planning on how to make it even better. I love improving my life.
I love my phd program and learning, learning, learning, creating for myself the time to read. I love being a teacher, I love my students, I love imparting information and empowering others.
I love my work, I love my clients, I love seeing them change before my eyes as they tune in to their true nature and are also empowered.
I love my body, I feel strong and healthy, I love my clothes and I love wearing essential oils. I love my cats, that goes without saying. Again I think, I love Amber, watching her blossom before me, I love watching tv together and going out for French fries, quiet times driving in the car listening to the oldies ie my generation, the eighties on the radio.
I love having Chip in my life, I love our communication, our dance, the ways we come together and move apart during the week, someone I don't take for granted and always feel blessed to spend the time together. I love that we take ballroom dance classes and I love, love, love that we will be married. I love being in love, I love feeling happy.

    Thoughts on Jealousy

My cats get jealous of each other, so I see that jealousy occurs in nature. What evolutionary purpose can jealousy serve? What message do we get when we sit and have tea with jealousy? What do my cats want?

Attention. Jealousy can be a message that you need attention from another or need to give attention to yourself. As human beings we need attention, appreciation, to feel respected. And each of us truly deserve attention.

Don't give your power away by saying "she is more (rich, thin, successful, etc). we are all one and rember that whatever that person has you have too, and even better, now you don't have to do it. I see skinny women and I get to enjoy my chubby buddha belly. I see married people and I get to enjoy being single. I see rich people and I get to enjoy not having that much responsibility.

I did a ritual today to release feelings of despair, abandonment, being disrespected, disregarded and having my feelings dismissed. Ritual is conscious transformation of energy. I blessed all my support systems, from my closest friends, talking to my mother and my brother, working with my coach as well as all of my loyal clients, who have shown up for me and given me what I needed when I needed it the most. Mostly, I honored my self, my tears and my struggles, sang chants to Innana as I buried the ashes of the past, my rage, my grief in the backyard. And yes, both my cats, true companions, were with me the whole time.

Find the love, attention and encouragement you need and deserve to be you, fabulous YOU, and notice the feelings evaporating... let me know how I can help you in your process.

I am the daughter of the ancient mother
I am the child of the mother of the world

    Oh Innana
it is you who teaches us
to die, be reborn and rise again
to die, be reborn and rise again
to die, be reborn and rise...

8 Ways Hypnosis can Reduce Stress

8 Ways Hypnosis can Reduce Stress

Imagine holding a drinking glass half full of water. Ask yourself, what do you see here? Is this glass... 8oz or 12oz? Either way, it only weighs a little. But if you hold it for 15 minutes, your arm will shake, after an hour, the arm will go numb, and after a day you will need to be hospitalized. Imagine the water is stress. Even if you only have a little, you need to be able to put it down now and then.

Who do you know who is stressed? Hypnotherapy helps you manage your stress, rather than having your stress manage you. It's the ability to go inside yourself and discover answers. Indeed, hypnotherapy provides every day solutions for every day problems. It provides a means to make a more empowered choice, aligning the head and heart in making the best decision in the moment.

One definition of stress in the need to make a decision. Life is continuously full of decisions, including career changes, moving locations, getting married, getting divorced, deciding to get pregnant, you know, every day problems. Really, once we have made up our mind, we know what to do. It's the weighing of options that can weigh us down, and using hypnosis is an extremely effective way to release doubt, especially self doubt, as well as to affirm life continuously improving through stressful times.

Now stress serves a purpose. Think of the stress in a guitar sting. It requires a certain amount of tension to be in tune. Too much stress, and the string will break. Too little, and will sound dull and flaccid. Our psyches also benefit from regular tunings to create feelings of internal harmony and well being.

Here are eight ways that hypnosis can help you reduce and manage stress:

1.Hypnosis is a relaxed, focused state of concentration where you can put your whole being -mind, body and soul- into the process. It is a way to create an action plan, find encouragement and experience accountability. Ask yourself, what would really make you happy?

    2. Learn and use the Simple Self Hypnosis technique to experience the feeling of calm, relaxed, peaceful and tranquil whenever you like, whether in a bored meeting or stuck in traffic, running late or waiting for someone.

    3. Change triggers to release positive feelings. Example, meter maids in Canada would perceive insults as the highest praise. What are your buttons and how would you like to respond differently?

    4. Contain and dispose of old toxic emotions that add to personal burden, such as guilt, shame, powerlessness, jealousy, victim hood, manipulative, greed and poor self esteem. What old patterns of behavior are you ready to dispose of now?

    5. Learn the real pause that refreshes. By going inside for a few minutes, discover making better food choices, finding the motivation to exercise, having a moment to change a habitual reaction into a kind and loving response. Where in your life do you need some breathing room?

    6. Make decisions with confidence and ease having spent the time exploring all the possibilities and options with full focus and attention. Sometimes when at the crossroads, it's important to consult a guide.

    7. Go on a fantasy vacation and visit the Club Med in your head. Experience deep relaxation with feelings of plenty of time to simply unwind, let go and enjoy.

    8. Change old habits that were once coping mechanisms such as smoking, eating for comfort, nail biting etc that actually cause more stress than they release into new, healthy habits.

    What happens during Reiki?

    Revitalize with Reiki
What happens during a Reiki session? A lot of people are wondering...

Usually during a reiki session, I start at the clients feet and work my way up to the crown chakra then back down to the feet again. I hold two points with my fingers and will feel two different pulses. I pass energy through my hands, first one way then the other, until I feel the pulses match up. That is when I know it is time to move my hands.

The points are the bottoms of the feet, knees, sides of the hips, solar plexus, collar bones, elbows, wrists, jaw bone, temples and crown of the head. Some people do not want any touch, so I will hover my hands an inch or so above that point instead. Some people talk during the session, others drift into sleep or go into a meditative trance. Often we do guided meditations although silence is one of the most powerful healers. The experience is generally soothing, calming, and deeply relaxing.

    Secrets to Success: Discover Hypnosis

Discover Hypnosis with Kayla Garnet Rose, Certified Hypnotherapist, Santa Cruz, California

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is hypnosis and how does it work?
A: Hypnosis is a very natural process of entering a state of deep relaxation. This helps your subconscious mind become more attentive, receptive to suggestion, and open to change. The practitioner will guide you into a trance, and then facilitate your inner explorations. Much like being in a lucid dream, your subconscious will reveal to you the steps for successful solutions through experiencing insights for personal growth & transformation.

Q: How can I be sure I can be hypnotized?
A: Hypnosis is a natural, though altered, state of mind. You enter some form of hypnosis several times a day, like when you are driving and pass your turn-off because you haven’t been paying attention, or being absorbed in a good book. Everyone goes through natural, altered states before they fall asleep, and as they come into wakefulness.

Q: Can a hypnotist make me do something I don’t want to do?
A: All hypnosis is actually "self-hypnosis." You are allowing the hypnotist to guide you into your deeper and broader memory and other resources. Since it is a 100% consent state, no one can hypnotize you against your will. You are free to reject and receive any suggestion at any time, and to come out of trance at any time by merely opening your eyes.

Q: Will I reveal too much when I am hypnotized?
A: Hypnosis is not a truth-serum or other drug. It is not like "opening Pandora’s Box" and letting out all your secrets. Since you are in charge, and letting yourself be hypnotized, your own mind determines how much or how little you wish to contribute to a hypnosis session. You can just as freely answer and not answer questions in a hypnotic state as you do in a wide-awake one.

Q: How many sessions will I need?
A: Resolving your issue will depend on the issue itself, as well as on your commitment to change. Typically, you will know within 3 sessions whether Hypnotherapy is effective for you.

Q: How often should I schedule sessions?
A: Some clients visit each week, others come as often as they see fit to address their needs.

Q: How long is one session?
A: Sessions run between 60 to 75 minutes.

Q: What else should I do?
A: Drink water; Practice what you learn in sessions; Keep a journal; Balance work & play; Breathe deep; Check in with other healers for a holistic experience - ask for a referral for any service you may need at this time.

    Q. Habit cessation
    A. Just as people develop habits for many different reasons, people also desire to stop their habits for just as many reasons. I work with people to find the underlying causes. What do you like and dislike about your habit? How did it serve you? What will serve that purpose now? What will you miss? What is your main motivation to quit? What does it mean to you? Through a combination of guided imagery and regression healings, you will find changing your habits easy and with long term results.

    Q. What is Hypnosis used for?
    A. Anytime you would like to feel focused, have a goal to achieve, or want to check in with your deeper self. Whether accessing your inner coach for true motivation, or inner couch for deep relaxation, discover how hypnosis can serve you. I have had positive results with:
    Anxiety & releasing fear

    Healing Children Mandala

This mandala includes the four elements - earth, water, fire and air, and was created with the intention to send healing energy to a newly blended family. The four hearts in the center represent the four children in the situation; the four roses are the four parents, new ways to grow

It definitely took a few layers to create the right shading, both to create the secondary colors and to create the range of light within the colors. I thought a lot about energy blending while doing this exercise, noticing which colors were harmonizing and which were complementary, realizing this would be a good tool to use when creating mandala to create areas of flow as well as areas of creative tension.

Secrets to Success: Challenge Your Self

When we're not empowering and inspiring our readers and viewers, we sometimes empower and inspire ourselves by slipping away for a little fun. Neither Kayla nor I had been zip-lining before, and there is a great course in Felton, just a few miles from Santa Cruz. On Sunday, September 18 2011 we took a short drive to a different world.

Located within the Mt. Hermon conference grounds, Redwood Canopy Tours offers a guided experience through redwood tree tops over six separate zip-lines and two sky bridges.

    Who gets Reiki?

    Who gets Reiki?

Reiki clients come in all shapes and sizes. My youngest client was two and a half, my oldest so far is 83. My clients drive a few hours, from San Mateo, Marin, Aromas, Hollister... all the way to Santa Cruz simply for a session. Reiki clients are CEOs and auto mechanics, doctors and engineers, with many different world views, faiths and beliefs.

Each person has a unique experience during the session. Some folks are visual, and will see patterns of light and color or images as if from a dream unfolding before their eyes. Some folks are more kinesthetic, and will feel warmth or coolness, tightening or loosening of the muscles, electric impulses or tingling sensations. Most people simply, deeply relax, going deeper and deeper inside, where the true healing lies. When the mind and body rest, ease and regeneration occur, from the cellular level to the spiritual level. And who doesn't want that?

    Healing Relationship Mandala

The healing relationship mandala was the one I spent the most time on. I meditated upon four symbols to represent blending families and to create a healing for my daughter and I, most of which came to me during a cranial sacral treatment. I created arcs of energy that linked four of us together, surrounded by a ring of symbols for friends and family, and a bigger circle representing being grounded and connected to the earth. I abided by the instructions to just keep working, and in the end know I created a potent symbol of my own process of integrating family dynamics as a part of an alchemical whole.

    Looking Through Old Journals

What is in your old journals?
Once I was a diamond in the rough
Life was hard and life felt tough
Times I felt fragmented, times I felt shattered
Ultimately I found out what really mattered

Cutting away what was simply not sublime
Polishing my edges, simply tailing the time
Like a precision jeweler, chipping away the past
Revealing the heart of the jewel that really does last

My burdens, my woes, all of my stressors
Let this lump of coal do good under pressure
I have many facets and each of them shines
I own all my flaws, they are uniquely mine

Sometimes cold, sometimes hard, always brilliant
My jeweled tones have become more resilient
Times I am humble, times quite ferocious
I know now that I am always precious

I am sparkly and glittery, something quite rare
It took years and years of work to get me there
What was once simply a part of the earth
Now knows her true self her diamond self worth

Everyday I can take care of body and soul
Exercise my mind and exercise my health
In looking through my old journals what I discover:
I have always been engaged with my self.

    What is Reiki?

    What is Reiki? Good Question!

It's always interesting for me to receive a Reiki session, as I am reminded why my clients like it so much. Reiki is extremely subtle, deeply relaxing and rejuvenating to the core. It is a perfect modality for anyone who doesn't like to be touched, whether from fibromyalgia or emotional issues. Reiki helps to clear stuck energy, feelings of being blocked and mental stagnation. Much like jump starting a car, the gift of Reiki can jump start your life after a draining experience. The other metaphor is that of tuning up a musical instrument - Reiki helps to harmonize the soul.

But what is Reiki exactly? You really have to experience it for your self. Definitions abound from the laying on of hands to energy work. Indeed, Reiki can be done with a light physical touch to distance healings. Anyone can tap into Reiki as a gift of beneficial energy.

Practitioners go through a series of attunements and teaching. Then like any skill, it's all about practice, practice, practice. On your self, on your pets, your friends and family, and yes, I have even done Reiki on a jammed up photocopying machine (the WAY of the paper, the WAY of the paper...). All healing is self healing and Reiki is a way to hold the space and the higher vision for that healing to occur.
